Stand Grinder

Northern Iron LLC is looking for a detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Swing Grinder.

Position Summary:

The Swing Grinder plays a critical role in the finishing process by removing excess metal, burrs, fins, and other irregularities from castings using large swing grinders and related finishing equipment. This position ensures all castings meet quality, safety, and production standards before advancing to the next stage of manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate swing grinders, snag grinders, and other heavy finishing equipment to clean and finish iron castings.
• Remove gates, risers, fins, and other irregularities according to specifications.
• Inspect castings for surface defects to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Safely handle and position heavy castings using hoists, cranes, or other lifting devices.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, including wheel changes and cleaning, to ensure safe operation.
• Use gauges, templates, and measuring tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Follow all safety policies and wear required PPE, including respirators, hearing protection, and protective clothing.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Report defects, equipment malfunctions, and production issues to supervisors promptly.
• Support team development by assisting in training and mentoring new employees as needed.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous foundry, metal finishing, or manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate swing grinders and related equipment.
• Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy objects (50+ lbs) for extended periods.
• Familiarity with hoists, cranes, and rigging for handling heavy castings.
• Basic understanding of quality inspection and measuring tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

• Foundry environment with exposure to high noise levels, dust, heat, and vibration.
• Required use of PPE such as respirators, face shields, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
• Physically demanding work involving frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and overhead tasks.

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry castings weighing 50–75 lbs.
• Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching.
• Ability to safely operate swing grinders for prolonged periods.

• 1st shift   4:00 AM- 2:30 PM Monday – Friday 
• Regular Pay $23.80/hour -Pay is based on experience.
